About the project
The Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society’s Outdoor Environmental Education (OEE) Program offers a full-service experiential learning program on natural history, wildlife conservation and sustainable development. The OEE Program is located at Wasgamuwa in the Matale District in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The main field-study areas are the Himbiliyakade Forest Reserve, Wasgamuwa National Park and the Knuckles Mountain Range. The classes and activities are led by trained instructors and facilitators.
The OEE Program is an outdoor environmental education program approved by the Ministry of Education. The SLWCS is a Sri Lankan, USA and Australian registered institution which has been working since 1995 to develop a model for sustainable conservation in Sri Lanka through research, applied conservation and community development projects. In 2008, the SLWCS was awarded a prestigious UNDP Equator Initiative Equator Prize for its outstanding conservation efforts and for being one of the best community- based environmental conservation organizations in the world.
